Interesting little tidbit...?

10 Feb 2005, 22:22I was running into a big hurdle in my new game whenever the player tried interacting with an actor named "Don". The game didn't recognize "Don" for anything. But when I changed his name, and nothing else, everything worked fine.
Is "Don" some reserved word that I'm unaware of?

Sounds odd. Were you using the TypeLib? I'm wondering whether there's a synonym that changes "on" into something else (and hence would change "Don" as well perhaps)

10 Feb 2005, 23:18'don' is indeed used as a verb in typelib...
don = put on
It is an old fashioned word, but my testers complained it wasn't supported - so what can you do?
Perhaps the easiest action is to rename the character.

11 Feb 2005, 04:25Well, that explains that! I am using typelib, so thats why changing the characters name from Don to Hal worked.
Thanks for the info Al!

11 Feb 2005, 18:33Sorry Madlib, but what kind of testers do you have?? Yes, I've heard the word 'don' but no one uses it anymore. It's quite alarming that someone would mention it or comment that it wasn't able to be used. I'd start making fun of the idea if you weren't such a respectable person.

13 Feb 2005, 20:49Don't worry about it, Al. I got your back. You've helped me out a lot in the past. At least the guy said you were respectable!
007bond, you've been calling a lot people names in the past. What's your deal?

13 Feb 2005, 20:54He probably likes the novelty of calling other people idiots instead of other people calling him an idiot.

Hey, I just ask people to test things and try to fix bugs as reported.
Personally I'd never type 'unwear' - because it isn't a real word. all my testers used it immediately...
This just goes to show the importance of having a good cross section of testers, they will break things in ways you never even had an inkling they'd try...

14 Feb 2005, 02:08I know how you feel Al. I get my brother to test things sometimes. He opens the program, and the first thing he does results in me finding a bug!
